    Extending Radial

Hi, I currently have a radial circuit in my kitchen servicing 4 double sockets using 2.5mm flat TaE on a 16amp breaker. I'm looking to add a further 6 double sockets on to this existing circuit. Would this be possible without replacing the 2.5mm cable and just replacing the breaker for a 20amp.

    Kitchen Wiring

Hi, I’m currently wiring all the sockets and lighting in the new kitchen extension. I run in to a problem where I need to take the cables around two corners. From my understanding safe zones don’t carry around corners. The roof above the sockets is pitched and there’s a steel beam. Do I run the...

Tiling Around Sockets With Plasterboard Boxes

My plasterboard boxes are approximately the same width and height as the sockets. The sockets have bevelled edges. Most YouTube guides I've watched recommend leaving a few mm gap between the edge of the box and tile, but that applies to metal back boxes which are somewhat smaller than the...

Hi all, Possibly a bit of an odd request, possibly not... I'm currently having a house built, and we plan to build Alexa devices flush mounted into the walls as the smart home control. I am struggling to find a neat way of powering them though. With the modules flush mounted into the walls...

    Non-UK Sockets - Wiring Regulations

Hi all, This is possibly more of an exploration / discussion question than anything. Is there anything in the wiring regs that would cover fitting non UK sockets in a UK installation? As an example: I have a Wi-Fi Hub for my Smart door locks, which is a sealed EU unit, obviously I could just...

    When to cut socket holes?

Hello I’ve recently had all my internal, upstairs walls (paramount partition board ) taken out and replaced with 90mm studwork. I’ve just put 12.5mm plasterboard on and was wondering if it’s better to cut the holes for the sockets before, or after, it’s plastered? Thanks

All sockets deactivated when I remove one

I am working on an old house with lathe walls. While I was relocating sockets I noticed that when I had disconnected a socket all other sockets became inactive, until I reconnected the socket. This only happens downstairs; upstairs is normal. Why does this happen? Weird wiring, or an error?

    Does this require sign off?

So I had a room in my house with no plug sockets, It was a very old room and I wanted to use it as a small office. It needed plugs, 3 doubles to be precise. The room was bare brick so I plaster boarded on dabs. To install the plugs I created a spur off a plug on a ring main in the room...

    Computers and earth leakage

Afternoon all, Is there a rule of thumb when it comes to earth leakage for desktop PC, printers etc? Or is it dependant to the individual appliance? I have been asked to add a few sockets to a local business, nice and straightforward, so I believed until I saw the CU which has no RCD...
