    I got 90%.
Did you do a course, or just the exam?

    Hi @spinlondon

As I did the 17th back in 2008 I had to do a 12 hour course. 2 Evenings a week for three weeks.

    Kind regards

I just did the exam, same as with the 17th.
A little more expensive this time, £125 instead of £30.

Place I did the 18th was at a private training centre, lent me a book and a calculator which didn’t have the square root function.
Only noticed after I’d finished that there were a choice of calculators, some of which did have the square root function.
I did the 17th at a college, but when I phoned them for the 18th, they hadn’t started any courses yet.

Did mine last July. I usually do exam only but decided to do a one day revise an exam. If I recall I got in the high eighties. Done and dusted for about £230.

I was told if you had done the 17th exam after amd 3 you could just do a 1 day update, if you did it before amd 3 you had to do the full update as with the 16th to the17th.

    Kind regards

Yes, a lot of the training Centers are pushing that malarkey.
There are those that will allow you to just do the exam though.

The place I did mine at, you can book just the exam online (£140), which I was in the process of doing, but when I got to the checkout page, there was no date showing for when to sit the exam.
So I phoned them and the guy basically told me that if I got there before 2:30, I could sit it that day.
Needed to allow time to enroll me and do the paperwork, then 2 hours for the exam, before they close at 5pm.
When I actually went to pay at reception, they only wanted £125.

When I taught the 16th edition in College, their was no requirement from C&G to do the course before the exam. Their was no in course assessment.

There isn’t any now, the exam is done online.
Training centres just want your money.
I have a feeling, that there are two exams.
    1 hour 30 questions and 2 hours 60 questions.
The 1 hour is for people who have done the 17th 3rd amendment.

Can the exam still be booked through the IET? I can't find anywhere to do just the exam.

I don't think so. Finding an exam only is a real pita as C&G cannot tell you of exam only centres. You can search for centres on the C&G website but then you have to contact them individually. However, more and more of the training centres are not interested in exam only clients as there is not much profit it in it. I am lucky as one of my local centres is happy to offer exam only.

Nope there is only one exam 2382-18. No update exam for the 18th.

I just searched for 2382 exam only.
Found places in Leeds, Liverpool West London, etc.
Then I searched in my area, found two straight off.

Why is everyone so keen to do it? Surely only when the scam provider has given you a final final definitely final but we still want your money warning would you even consider getting the 18th edition. It adds no value whatsoever to the safety or future of electrical systems, costs you time and money you don't have and can only possibly increase any stress levels you already have.

I don't know about everyone else but the one and only reason I'm with a scam provider is to enable me to carry on earning money, not for the fancy logo you can put on your meaningless forms or the overpriced sweat shirts they sell. Its why we've joined Stroma as they are by far the cheapest, and also the naffest but that doesn't matter.

So until my business is seriously threatened with not being able to carry on working the IEE can stick the 18th edition up its ****.

Just sick of the amount of paperwork and nannying that goes on these days, all I wan't to do is go to work, do the job and come home again without any interference, its not too much to ask is it.
