We should cause if you think that people only start drinking at 18 then you have either lead a sheltered life or just don't want to say you know teens start drinking at shall we say 13/14+

At least if we made it legal from 16 they would do it in a safe environment where they can be monitored and can get told you've had enough

Hey Broon, my first pint bought by me in a pub was when I was 16. But why stop with just voting , marriage and drinking? Surely they should be able to drive at that age, get credit, get a mortgage? Anything else they should be allowed to do at 16 ? Ahh one springs to mind,, the right to be tried as an adult for any crimes committed. ;)

They should be tried as adults because if you don't know right from wrong by 16 then I doubt you ever will. They can drive moped's at 16 and then cars at 17 don't see why it cant be lowered plus if you have mobility issues you can get a car license at 16(pretty sure about that but not 100%) You can get declined for a mortgage or credit at any age the reason sixteen year olds can't get any is because they have no credit record and are to much of a risk for companies to give loans out to that has nothing to do with law.

I think you have to be aged 18 to get credit Broon, certainly a credit card (and possibly bank loan) It's the law.

Yea your right need to be 18 before you can apply for a credit card not sure about the loan. which I understand you need a credit check and all that jazz. I stand by the rest though. To think this all stemmed from me saying 16 year old's should get a vote.

You know what, Broon, I belive you are right and now totally agree with you.

I'd been assuming that the bulk of adult voters in this country are better informed and more sensible than they actually are, but that clearly isn't true; you only have to see their 'reasons' for Brexit, for example, to wince at their simplistic 'thinking' - "It's the bludy immigrants, innit" or "To take back control!".

So, yes, I do now agree with you; many of the younger folk - although idealistic to be sure - are at least as well informed on political issues and almost certainly far better educated in almost every respect than their elders. So, overall, their franchised contribution should be welcomed.
