    Hi

looking at replacing a gas oven to 8kw electric oven, on my board it has a 32amp breaker feeding there already. I have also another board next to it with a 10amp breaker also labelled cooker. This 10amp as well as the 32amp when put in the off position turns the cooker off.

Has anyone an idea as to why this would be?

When you turn off the 32a does anything else turn off or just the oven?

Tbh that all looks well over 30 years old and isn't really compliant with todays regs. I would be thinking about consolidating the lot into a new CU with dual rcd or full RCBO protection.

    Hi Coloumb

I will be getting this upgraded start of next year.

When i tuen the 32 off, from what i can tell it is just the oven feed.

    just unsure why the 10amp

Maybe the gas cooker used electric ignition or had a light inside, in which case it would have been electricity fed by the 10A circuit.

The other circuit was probably provision for an electric cooker even if it wasn't ever used

What does the breaker labeled "cooker" do? On the main CU?

The main cooker switch turns just the cooker off

What is this cooker, a freestanding cooker or separate hob and oven built into the kitchen cabinets?

Freestanding gas oven and hob, wired into a cooker switch. Power must be for the light and clock.

either way it still isn’t making sense for having two breakers

How many wires are there coming out of the back of the freestanding cooker?

When you get a new CU your spark should be able to work it out!

Yeh, will leave getting an oven ordered until board and wiring is sorted
