Hi folks, Advice very welcome - I have a heavy mirror that I need to install on my living room chimney breast. 1950's/60's build so assuming plaster on brick The mirror is round, 100cm in diameter, is about 20kg and has 2 x sawtooth fixtures to hang on screws. What screws/plugs should I use? Thanks in advance Barry
60-70mm Number 12/6.0 full thread screws, brown plugs, 7 or 8mm drill bit depending on the brand of plug.
I always drill in 2 plugs one on top of the other , and at a slight downward angle into the wall ,ie the screws sticking up slightly
Thanks guys, great advice. So here's where my lack of knowledge shines... I can't seem to find a 60-70mm length, 6mm diameter full thread screw. They're all partial length (on the screwfix website anyway) any ideas or if you can point me even more in the right direction..?
So these? https://www.toolstation.com/multi-purpose-zinc-plated-pozi-screw/p84000 They look a little like wood screws to me but again, what do I know! Thanks again Jord86
I just typed into google 70mm number 12 woodscrew and Toolstation popped up with exactly the ones in all different sizes.
You asked what screws and plugs to hang a mirror off? What I told you to get, you will be able to hang your mirror off.
"woodscrew" doesn't mean only use in wood. That's why you use plastic plugs... Drill hole in wall, insert plug, screw in the screw
