Hi again

I need two Aico Ei168 radio link bases and three Aico Ei161 standard ionisation smoke alarm with battery back-up. That will give me all the basic gear. Then I need to hack a hole in the stud to find my feed to get to the additional smoke. tbh having looked at this system I may ditch wired links altogether and just go for radio links in future. Just take a feed to each smoke point.

:)

Aico RF bases are a Godsend Roy, if a touch pricey

Most wholesalers prices are pretty fixed and state they dont make much off of them.

£35-£40.00 a base is the usual

Saves us a lot of hasle as wally says in running cables

Hi Simon

Don't want to get involved with jobsworth inspectors. In my experience they are all awkward sob's and do it on purpose. But they are as good as the Law so not going to get involved. Hopefully can get some money back on the job by installing the smoke. Builder sliced £500 off the original price anyway so I haven't made much on it.

:)

oh dear you having to work to current climate prices :^O

btw foo as far as drawings go...I used to do structural drawings so there isn't anything I don't know about drawings. The micky mouse sh$t I see these days when I am asked to quote jobs aint worth price of loo roll. Thats why I try to detail everything I do in writing cuz customers will argue black is white that your price includes everything. That is one bitter pill I have had to swallow once too often.

UP. Is there anything stopping you taking the supply to the base from the lighting circuit in the play room ,as the interlink is now radio.

i could of supplied and fitted 20 fire rated low voltage downlights for the £500 the builder knocked you down ;)

Hi daff

No mate, thats exactly what I am planning. Luckily lighting circuit is wired feeding the switches method and the playroom switch is in a stud partition, not on a block wall. Just need to fish the wire out/pull another in to switch and wire across the ceiling between the celotex for a short way which shouldn't be too hard. I am getting used to doing difficult wiring tbh for one thing or another.

I suspect that in the back-ground there are rumblings that I should have known a smoke would be required and they will try to wriggle out of paying. Call me synical :)

going up a stud wall and across a ceiling with celotex without cutting holes will take some doing Roy

Best of luck mate.

So you realize I fitted the ******* for nothing cuz there were loads of sockets and switches that were basically covered by what I was paid but it didn't cover any f the recessed lights. What I should have said at the time is "What are you taking out then?" and just put in a couple of wall lights.

c'mon pal , why would it cost £500 to add another smoke detector?

If it was wired I would have charged £300 and the plasterer I know would have wanted £180 to make good and I would take £20. And I didn't want the job...

Not trying to tell you your job but the base will give you a forgiving hole in the ceiling near the site of the L/S run, thats how I would tackle it. As long as you can get your min distance.

Is this the same job where the plasterer ferked you up not making a note of the downlight positions Roy ?
