Problem: Customer tries to replace syphon hook in 25 yr old toilet after old one had broken due to corrosion. Removes part of hook still attached to syphon allowing rod to fall inside syphon chamber. Customer hammers nail into top of rod pushing it further inside. Calls me.

Solution: Feed length of bent solder wire under syphon to push diaphragm cage/rod back up.

    Any other time saving tips?

    (Toilet humour expected and welcome.)

1.) Always carry gaffer tape with you on any job for all those 'quick fixes' Gaffer tape beats welding pipes together any day!!

2.) Putting nails in a customers water tank will ensure you get return business in the future, when they can't understand why their water is coming out **** orange...always plan ahead!!

3.) Deck of cards..great way to bond with your clients and if you win you can take em for more than they are worth!

4.) Rainbow trout..you can get them from pretty much any supermarket and a couple of them stuffed down the back of a clients radiator will also ensure return business in the future and costs you around £1.98

5.) Always have a toothbrush and spare clothes in the van..you never know when you might be staying over!

6.) Always park your van across a customers driveway...this prevents them from making a quick escape when you present them with the bill!

7.) using a chamois leather on old copper pipes is a great way to make 'old pipes' look 'new' the customer wont be able to tell the difference..that is until they take a bath next or use the kitchen sink...meanwhile you will have cashed the cheque and changed your company name!

8.) Never go commando on the job...its not worth the time it takes to explain it to the customer should you rip the **** out of your overalls!

9.) Nobody likes a bald plumber!

10.) That’s it for now....although if these go down well then Terry Meat Hooks will have a regular free tips spot on these forums!
