How about modifying a wardrobe lift and using it backwards? Their normal state is up but are lowered in use.

Isn't that the 'proper' answer right there? Ie - an acrylic cover but with the rear panel fitted as part of the turntable shelf with the cover hinges now mounted on the top of that back panel - so that the rest of the cover hinges upwards and back to sit flush against the back wall. You say you've done this before, but had problems with the hinges allowing the cover to fall forward. All you need are decent friction hinges...
Thanks all, I've had a good look round and the TVs lift idea seems best option. They are quite expensive, cheapest is £130 up to £1000s. The cheapest ones have a guide that screws to wall so not so keen. So I may have a go at making one with piece of steel box section and mount each end a heavy duty drawer runner for the guides, you can buy three section ones so it will be hidden when the dust cover is down, then an actuator mounted in the middle to actually lift the dust cover up. There will be a metal plate which the drawer runners and actuator will be joined to and fixed to the dust cover...?
Maybe i'm being a bit thick here, but why not just buy Michell's own dust cover ? It works fine on my Orbe SE, no dust on the arm or the platter.
I know, but mine is a full cover, due to small children in the house! even then they are fascinated with it. I have a full cover on it, but every time I use it, I have to carefully remove it and then put it somewhere, I tripped over it once in the darkened room and a few times I've knocked the turntable. I just thought out of boredom! it would be great to press a button and the cover rises after using it, press it again and it returns to its place. I could even put a key switch on it so you need the key to get it to rise...I like challenges! The actuator is £22 and the drawer runners are £6.00 and a PWM controller £3.00 to control the speed, and a few nuts and bolts so £30 in total
