Anyone in the Birmingham area interested in being my Gas Safe mentor?

Hi my names David, I'm thirty and looking for a career change, and I'm looking at becoming a registered Gas Safe plumbing and heating engineer.

I am looking for someone to help show me the ropes as part of the training that I am looking to do to become gas safe registered like yourself, as I'm sure you already know this is required as part of the certification.

Of course as a mentor then you will have an extra pair of hands but it will take longer, at the beginning at least, to complete any jobs you are doing, however I will do whatever I can to make sure I'm a help, and not a hindrance as quickly as possible.

I'm keen to make this work and from my previous education as an engineer and experience within business development and project management then I'd hope that I'd be able to repay the favour by providing some of my own knowledge and experience to enhancing your own business.

I'd of course pay for my own training fees, and I'm not expecting any remuneration - although once I am useful any would be well received.

I appreciate this is off the cuff and I'm not asking for anyone to guarantee me a role but if you are interested in meeting up for a chat to see if it'd be something you'd like to help me with or if I would be of any benefit working for you then please message me.

    Thanks,

    David

Whilst I am not a Gas Engineer, I like your rather refreshing approach to starting out. We do get a lot of people asking for advice on starting out - none as eloquent or as well thought out as yours.

Sincerely hope all the best for your new career and hope you find your personal Yoda ;)

Great post David, sorry I cant be of much help as location prevents us teaming up, unless you are willing to travel to the South Coast each day.
Good luck with the change of career, this one is hard work and physically demanding, but is rewarding, I dont mean finacially, but for job satisfaction.

Whoa, now that makes a refreshing change...although I can't help you directly, I am sure you'll achieve all that you want to, and I sincerely hope you do, you have a positive attitude that should be applauded, and to take time to post as you have here is an inspiration, fair play, my hats off to you sir.

    Good afternoon Dave,

Thank you for the encouragement. Where abouts on the South Coast? I have close family in Portsmouth, and if you would be interested in helping me then it may be a more realistic option if I am unable to find mentors in the midlands area (I want to move on this sooner rather than later. So if I have to compromise then so be it)

Once again thanks for your reply,

    Thanks,

    David

    Good afternoon Sospan,
Thanks for your words of encouragement.

If you do know of anyone who might be interested then please feel free to pass my details to them or pass their details to me.

    What is your specialisation?

    Thanks

    David

    It is a pleasure.

Wish I had a specialism, wouldn't end up getting pulled in so many directions: Sunday I was wallpapering then had to go off and fix a leak a radiator leak, yesterday was hanging a door and fitting skirtings in the morning afternoon I was fitting a sewer pipe and filling a skip with a spoil heap. This morning I was dealing with the local authority regarding providing some disabled facilities on a council house. This afternoon is me time - well got to tidy up my workshop as there is no visible floor left! Tommorow I am building a dog run and kennels!

    Hi
It may pay you to visit the local plumbing merchants, chat to the manager about your plans.

If you can spend time there and get to know the tradesmen, you may find success.

Often, people are more inclined to help when they are face to face,

You could be a weirdo, or a really great bloke, that's why it's difficult to get a positive replay from advertising yourself.

I am trying to be positive and helpful, not running you down, good luck

    Regards
    Peter
