Have just bought a 6.5Kw generator as a back up system because we are rural, whats the best way to link up to the house supply in case of a power cut ?

Get a sparky to fit a DP changeover switch - fancy name - "Load Transfer Switch".

He will need to also address the earthing arrangements.

Does this generator some with a 32amp outlet, or is the type with a couple of 16amp outlets - The latter would be a PITA to connect to the installation.

Shove a 13A Plug on't end and back feed down ya Ring Main!

Just make sure you un-plug before the DNO re-energize! :O

(They'll ring you directly, and let you know 5 mins before hand! :p)

    Seen it happen!

    Reet entertaining! :^O

Ignore sinewave he's doesnt know what he is talking about, he just talks a lot.
His solution could kill someone because you would have a live pins on a 13A plug.
Also you would be back feeding every circuit on the CCU.
And as for the rec ringing you up to tell your power is coming back on - total ******.

As for not knowing what I'm talking about on this subject I think you'll find I know more than most having worked 15 years for a big DNO in all operational areas!

This forum is for people seeking advice and the posts remain here forever and a day.
Your advise is irresponsible, if you have the experience you claim (but I think that is the real wind up)and somebody followed your "expert" advise you could be in big trouble.
But, I don't suppose people injuring themselves or worse means much to you.
Lets hope nobody ever does what you have advised.

Soriously hohmslaw - anyone installing this kind of rig should know the comment was in jest or deserves to get a belt.

When Pikey ray has to ask what a PITA is, he won't realise that slimewave's post was a joke.

Take a bit more care in future slimewave! :)
