B&Q have a good 2 for 1 offer on paint atm, , so I will be stocking up to repaint my interior at some rentals at some point. The offer gives better value than what ScrewFix retails at. I'll be keeping things simple and just going for white& grey Matt tones. What I would love to have some thoughts of are, the quality of each of the brands, and whether getting a 'trade' option gives any added benefit? e.g. will i need 3 coats of the cheaper stuff, with only 1 or 2 of the more epensive options ? Other things to consider is that I will be painting onto freshly skimmed walls, so maybe I need to buy a primer as well.. ? I'll be getting 10L tubs .. Here are the prices (inc VAT) (& inc my 10% B&Q discount) in ascending order, with a note of what the manufacturer says 1L will cover. I have x10 these to give the coverage per Tub, and then divided through the price to give cost per M2 coverage for the deal. I'd stay away from Valspar paint unless you want your house smelling of cats pee. Contract paint is non-vinyl so good for mist coat and ceilings only really. I'd go with Dulux Pure Brilliant from that lot, or the Dulux White Vinyl which is the trade equivalent and will give better coverage. Both are vinyl.
I do find paint is one of those things that you get what you pay for. Personally I like Leyland trade vinyl Matt. Good coverage and fairly hard wearing. It’s usually around £30 for 10L
I'd stay away from B&Q paint. Go to the main decorator centres, better quality paint. It is not the same in B&Q.
My local Brewers has been brilliant (the manager is ex-trade). Excellent advice given and good recommendations on the products.
Very unimpressed with the Leyland brilliant white matt. Needs an extra coat compared to Crown/Dulux etc.
