Have a challenge. Outside bog, high-level cistern, water pipes. Back wall is brick, covered in many layers of flaking paint. some mortar joints soft.

Want to tidy it up. It would be a pain to overboard, so don't want to do that. Likewise it would be tricky to put a thick render on. I am thinking about a good wire brush followed by an SBR slurry followed by paint. I think paint on it's own won't stick for long. It doesn't matter if it still looks "rustic".

What do other peeps think? ideas?

Wire brush and then coat of peal stop. Stick some masonry paint over that..

Other option is sbr and buy a bag of render and cover.
    Sponge finish and paint

Thanks Wayners. :):) Never used or even heard of peel stop, but looks an excellent option. What's it like to use? does it need multiple coats?

One coat unless you get those spots that look like they need a second coat.

Have a look at data sheet
