    I have a strange problem.

When i turn my shower on i get a very loud banging sound from the pipework. If i turn on the cold tap, the banging stops! All the pipes i can see are securely fixed to the wall.

try turning down your incoming supply , by screwing in your stopcock a few turns

This is an obvious case of water hammer. Either install a water hammer arrestor (as water hammer can very easily build up pressures to 10-15 bar, or reduce the number of accute bends in the system. Pulled bends are a lot more flow-friendly.

Yeah can do that bit - was thinking about re-routing the pipes.

Dead easy - pop down your local plumbers merchants, get some pipes, fittings and a bending spring, and bob's your uncle. If your going to use soldered fittings, get endfeed type and a reel of Lead free solder.
