I get it but as the saying goes if you want something done do it yourself, maybe your dad is just tired does he work? my father is 72 & a full time carer for my mum, he's always there for advice for me but wouldn't dream of asking him to help decorate. Plus the feeling of doing something yourself is great to accomplish something you have worked hard at do!! Best medicine in the world...no man needed in this house!! But gladly take advice of someone more knowledgeable than myself x chin up darlin you got this

Yes Dave we are aware of the use of Methylated Spirit in the cleaning of shellac based products however you failed to explain a safe and environmentally way to dispose of the redundant Meths........................maybe you could have been more informative in advising the op to use Clean Spirit a revolutionary water based alternative due to minimal solvent content, clean spirit is safer for the user and also to the environment.;)

Is that why your veg patch glows in the dark?

It's to lose weight. He eats the veg and that's how he gets thinners.

Believe me, there are no veg in my garden. Even the lawn if you can call it that, is 95% moss.

Sorry geez but didn’t realise it was my job to go into detail on safe environmental disposal of meths ...., I seem to have been slacking in my details and can only apologies to one and all

What’s the difference in disposal though when using meths or white spirit ?

What do most people do ??? Chuck down sink perhaps or drain into garden ??

I’ve got two council tips in my area, both run by the same waste company . Strangely though, one site accepts paint and cleaning materials/solvents, whilst the other doesn’t

So.... op can check local waste management centre to see what products they deal with

Me, I have 2 containers of white spirit on the go and 2 of meths

1 container of used spirit for pre washing (say white paint) and the other unused. That way on 2nd clean only need a dash. Same with meths

Can reuse the dirty white spirit numerous times and keep in sealed original container. Mine is seriously years old

So there you go, I’ve further helped to save the planet in ten minutes whilst I’m waiting on me Mrs ...... we’re going out out :)

Tomorrow will be cleaning brushes from the fumes on my breath

Good point Astra ,,,,, can now sleep
sound tonight I’ve covered it :D

No difference in there disposal but alas I didn't mention White Spirit in my post, the article was expressing the virtues of Clean Spirit with it's advantages of being biodegradable and kinder to environmental concerns as brushes cleaned in it can be washed out using soapy water. ;)

Sorry no, I will be repairing a chipped enamel steel bath very soon but not a full repaint, have seen repainted baths a couple of times circa 30 years ago and looked ok but not excellent as both had runs in the paint. Probably would be much improved today with spray coating, maybe check for specialist company's online I do know that the surface to be re-finished has to be scrupulously clean though free from soap, oil, grime etc.
