bathroom renovation and building Regulation?

hi All, I had my bathroom done recently and we have renovated everything. We have changed the location of the toilette, shower and sink which means we had to do some plumbing jobs (drainage pipe has changed from original bathroom)

we also have removed a wall that was separating the toilette from the main bathroom.

reading on the council website it looks like we need building regulation when "
  • installation of baths, showers, WCs which involve new drainage or waste plumbing
we had our jobs done from a guy but he has not sent anything to the council, do you know if this is the case to do building regulation? if the guy who has done the job disappeared and I am not sure if this king of job should have some regulation now.
do you have any suggestion how to resolve this situation?

I would have thought that a new installation that has new plumbing/waste being installed would need planning (change of use or new build). Moving stuff around that connects to existing waste shouldn’t need building regs in an existing bathroom.

Might be an issue with the wall you removed if it was structural?

thank you for replying. the wall we removed wasn't structural, but the house plant will shows this wall, do you know if maybe it's just the wall removed that needs regulation?

also, for the toilette drainage we had to make a new hole , because the existing hole of the sink was too small, is in this case fine? or does it need regulation?

I’m sure someone with more knowledge will come and clarify but if you have not modified the waste in the house i.e. where you existing soil pipe enters the sewer etc, then I see no reason why building regs would be interested. If it was a new build and you’ve added a bathroom/toilet to an existing house then I think you’d have to inform someone of what you are doing.

sounds like you’ve just had a renovation done.

Removing a non loading wall, based on the information you have provided, even if shown on Local Authority drawings, is not against or does not require Building Regulation approval.

Certainly nowt to do with planning. From what you've described lack of BC involvement not an issue either.

If you're happy with the job just get on and enjoy it.

Have you paid the guy who did the work and are you happy with what he's done?
