yes but you should have some noggins or cross pieces
to help support and stop the wood twisting
[you pays you money and takes your chances]
    good luck any way

lol, i will put some of them in seeing as im re doin it with 2*2...., just remove the plaster at each point where a noggin is going and pas em behind it :D!

i think ill need more than good luck lol,
btw will the chippie want me to leave it un plasterborded so he can add noggins to hold wardrobs on or shall i just bored over it with say 9mm ply?

oh and seeing as this wall is so thin and i dont want to come out other side, shall i just make an independant wall up? without securing to old 1 inch block wall?

hmmm...never thaught chippie work was so damn complicated!!!

SS, why not give your chippie a call and ask him if he needs to fasten the wardrobes to the wall? If you are going to make an independant wall (very good for noise reduction) you could use 3x2 CLS.

If you're fastening wardrobes to the wall then it's hardly built in is it?
Thought the idea of built in was you just put doors across the front and hangers inside???

If you're going to be fastening something to it that isn't going to be supporting weight than I would have thought that plasterboard should be strong enough.
If it's going to be weight supporting then why not work out where it's going to be now, and fit supports in the appropriate place.

SS. 2x2 is the better bet really. There are a multitude of fixings out there now and any decent chiipie will find one that's right to fix the wardrobe. I carry about 6 diffent sorts of wall fixings with me at all times. Fix the batten VERTICALLY, at 16" centres. Thats what all us chippies look for, and with some Horiz noggins just to stop any bowing.

well thats not what it is called....
what you are talking about is a walk in wardrobe....because you can walk into it..
dont see why you must pick straws, but if thats waht you want to do

    NA! NA!
If its screwed to the wall its fixed
If its made of studs and gyproc its a walk in
If its scribed all round its Fitted
If its all different sizes its custom built
and all this because a sparky dosnt' ken his 2 from his 1 and im cfuking sure i wouldnt try joining gyproc on an inch.
    definately a brave man

Just as well chippies arent like sparkies.
If they were, one would hold a saw while 39 had to make sure the regs allowed him to hold it in his right hand.
