    Advise please !
I’m taking out an old sink in a bedroom and not replacing it .
Is there any advise on how far back I should trace the water supply pipes before cutting them.
Also , what sort of capping method is best ?.
    Thanks

Trace back to where they "T" into their supply lines and remove completely.

If it's a compression Tee, then you can replace that fitting with a straight union quite easily (tho' the union will usually be shorter so the main pipe could need some movement in it). If it's a soldered fitting, then that's a bit more work but the same can be done.

However, if the main pipe cannot be moved to 'shorten' its length an inch or so, it would be fine to simply cut the tee'd-off pipe close to this Tee and fit a cap on there.

This cap can be a soldered Yorkie, compression (with a smear of Fernox Hawk White) or even a plastic push-fit (after fully de-burring the pipe end.)
