I am having a secondary cu fitted in the kitchen which is cabled in 16mm twin and earth with a seperate 16mm earth from the main cu upstairs. Is it ok to bond the main water inlet pipe from this secondary cu instead of the main cu? Thanks
Many thanks, The reason I asked is that the mains in used to be overhead so no earth, the meter and cu is upstairs and the earth rod as far as we can gather is burried under the downstairs floor and the cable from that runs the entire length of the house then upstairs to the cu. The upstairs floors are hardwood so its going to be a real pain to run this water bond earth down stairs and to the rear of the house. If thats what we have to do then so be it!
I see no problem in doing what you first suggested. The earth bar in the kitchen c/u becomes a marshallimg earth terminal. As long as everything is labelled, recorded and resistance checked it should be ok. Have you checked the earth rod resistance and rcd protection is ok. I am certain a few here will start wrongly quoting reg no's and on site guide paragraphs but this is the real world.
Hi SS I have a spark comming round next week to carry out the connections and take readings etc. I am running the cables myself so as to save a bit of dosh and donkey work for the spark. My house was apparently rewired around 4yrs ago but its a right shambles and we are trying to sort it out as best we can. It would save me a lot of grief if I could bond the water from the 2nd cu. Seperate equipotential zone, flat is its own zone. Has its own Met House & Kitchen same zone same Met Ant
Plus if someone removes the second CU the bond is broken, all bonds must be unbroken and continuous. God dammit, get an edit feature on this forum already.

another way wud be to create an met near to the earh rod just see wot is easier to route anybody agree with my suggestion?
All main bonds should go to the MET and each should be identified and the usual warning label attached to the MET block. By the way I would not accept the earth block inside a CU as being a valid MET block.
Why not .. Because a MET block should be visible and all main bonds labelled. The way main bonds are connected is also defined and the MET should have the warning label atached - all of which is impossible inside a CU.
