They have been invaded a hell of a lot more often than we have, I know you're not a big fan of history but even so this is a staggering amount of ignorance.

 

Crowsfoot stated the main reason for Greece's woes were down to the amount it spent on defence, your mate DA poo pooed this claim, I simply highlighted the size of their army in relation to population figures compared to the UK, suggesting it could well be a contributing factor to their crisis.

For goodness sake Allsorts, if you're so keen to stay in the EU why not tell us why instead of just trying to discredit Leavers.

Do you like the EU because it takes lots of money off us? Do you like the EU officers because they managed to get controlling jobs telling British firms and people how to run their lives without being elected? Do you like the EU because they caused carnage to our fishing industry? Do you want to stay in because you think the EU will come to our aid if our economy is ruined by another Labour Government? Do you like being overrun by immigrants arriving to sponge off our generous benefits and health systems? Do you think it will be beneficial if we allow control of our country to gradually slip away. If you think any of these things, then go and live in the artificial world of EU. If you don't want any of those things then wake up and support Brexit.

It is ridiculous and very telling, tho', that you should have to 'ask' why the EU is a good thing, and then go on to post the most ignorant and populist supposed reasons why it ain't good.

I think you may have a slight bias.

If you want to just try and be impartial and just for one second pretend you are open to reason, all you have to do is try a Google. Find some sites. Then cross-reference these sites to ensure they don't have a bias - this is easy to do.

Then read them.

Hopefully that'll reduce your blood pressure.

But you are right - there are very few immigrants down here. And yet this was a very staunch 'Leave' area, and this was mostly driven by anti-immigration sentiment.

There's a Polish building company who have been working in this area for a few years - they built a large extension for an ex neighbour last year. Superb builders, ironically now too expensive for most folk due to their desirability.

The new neighbours of my ex-neighbour (keep up) were initially very welcoming of him as he bought the old bungalow he wished to extend as he actually originated from this village, so was effectively returning home. But as soon as they - virtually all UKIP supporters - discovered he was using Polish builders, they tried to scupper the build by blocking the road, parking where the builders needed to be, complaining to the council etc.

It wasn't subtle.

The Leave voters I know down here - those who I 'work' with locally - are all fixated on immigrants, Muslims in particular even tho' they've probably never met one. On Facebook they post the usual 'share if you agree' BS stuff found from alt-right and Moggish sites, a few of which I've quietly taken them to task on as they were such blatant fabrications.

Now't as ***** as folk. And bigots are the queerest.

Just a couple of points You must be some sort of a masochist if you think the EU is lovely. Before I voted to leave I did as much research as anyone before I reached my conclusion and I think the EU is awful.

 

Hmmmmm so you agree, in your North Devon enclave, there are very few “ foreigners” Yet the people who voted to leave in your area, were mostly driven by immigration ? Link please to prove your theory ( pertaining to immigration being the main factor in North Devon.)

The rise of UKIP in this area, the frankly racist behaviour of some folk to the Polish builders for example, the conversations I've had with (nice) Leavers*, and the posts they make on Facebook.

On that last one, one was a link to CNN (That's the 'christian' news network...) where a ranting news reporter was claiming there were 10's of thousands of Muslim rapists in our midst, and the xenophobic moron who posted that link also claims he's a born-again christian. I did reply to his post pointing out it was simply not true, and he did take it down.

And another two were of the "Pensioners work 40 years and get £6k per year, and immigrants get £28k for just turning up. Share if you agree." type. I had a quiet word with one of these posters - he's a genuinely nice fellow - along the lines of "Look, if you have an issue with immigration - and there are legitimate issues to talk about - that's fine. But please don't post something which doesn't contain a single fact in it. I was disappointed with his reply "Oops - I forgot you could see my posts..."

The other poster was the same delightful BAC as before, but he's a complete idiot anyway. Seriously.

Oh, and there there was that time when Torridge said it would take in these orphaned children - I can't recall if they were Syrian or had crossed the Med. I had to leave 'Bideford Banter' because of the rancid bile and hatred being poured on there by a shocking number of folk. The things they said! Almost as bad as on here. 'Excrement'.


You inadvertently raise a good point, tho' - why should such low immigration areas like here be the most 'racist'? Ignorance. The fear thast's been put about by the likes of UKIP and Robinson (you know, the guy that you lot defend). They basically think like you do, that immigrants come over here, get given houses and multi £ks, walk around in gangs, are paedophiles, bombers, jihadists. Some Leavers even try to suggest that teachers are paedos! Lol...

Whereas in multi-cultural areas, us whities have found out that - oh my gawd - they are just like us!

*To be fair to some folk I spoke to, one did claim it was because the EU wanted to set up its own army, and that - apparently - was enough reason for him (I didn't believe him...) and one started off by saying it was 'human rights gorn mad' and citing May's lie about the crim who couldn't be deported 'cos he owned a cat. I put him right on that, and then he started muttering about immigrants in general...

Within 'NATO' they are second only to the ,US, in terms of percentage of GDP spent on defence, and the, US has never faced an invasion of any credibility throughout its history.
