british standards for hammer drills

    Hi, hammer drill bits: anyone know what the legal definition is if any of the characteristics a drill bit must have to warrant it bieng classed a hammer or percussion bit please?

    Did a search on the BSI website and got this:
    BS2593:1974 Specification for rotary drill rods and tungsten carbide tipped rotary drill bits

    Doesnt appear to be any others but try it yourself.

    dont know but if it isnt an sds drill bit I wouldnt call it a hammer bit .I know some diy drills are percussion type but they call them hammer.To me if it hasnt got sds or + grooves it aint hammer!
