My radiator pipes have an elbow meaning I cannot use snap on pipe covers (unless it's possible to buy flexible ones that fit over 90 bends) can I paint them with one coat gloss??

You may well need a primer first.

Clean the pipes and gently key with some 240 or 400 grit "sand paper" (glass, garnet, emery). Then a single coat of metal primer before the gloss.

One coat gloss will go on and look nice a white but by the evening it will be yellow

To be honest, if the pipework is neat, there’s nothing wrong with giving them a good polish up with brasso. Copper is very ‘in’ at the moment :)

Use Blackfriars radiator paint or Bedec MSP, both waterbase non yellowing paint. ;)
