I managed to damage my kitchen ceiling whilst working in my upstairs bathroom. The ceiling needs to be replaced which I'm ok to do. Someone mentioned that the ceiling may contain asbestos, something i have never thought about. The ceilings(and house) was built in 1969. Is there asbestos contained in these ceilings.? It is artexed as well.

there is likely to be asbestos, not in the plasterboard but in the artex.

You can get a sample tested.

I live in Newport, South Wales and took a small sample to a lab in Cardiff called Corten. They analysed it for me for about £35.

If they have to come out with specialist testing gear to test it on site it's obviously more expensive.
