My house is a 1930s semi. I’m trying to increase the depth of loft insulation to 270mm and retain some space for storage.
The problem I’ve found is that my ceiling joists are just nailed into the rafters. They are not supported by any brickwork or padding on the one side. There is a load bearing wall in the middle.
what is the best way to add extra 4x2 joists (to allow boards over the extra insulation) without putting the all load through the ceiling joists and their fixings?
