Hi. I have 4 wires coming out of my ceiling rose. I’ve determined that the wires coming down are: Black = switch live green and yellow = earth Blue = neutral I’m just wondering why I have a spare brown wire capped off into the connector block which goes nowhere? is this wired correctly?
A photo would be helpful. Sounds like you've got a mix of old and new colours but presumably there are no issues? Ideally the black should be sleeved to indicate it's a switched live.
Thank you for replying. I do have a photo but it won’t upload to the thread. There are no issues with the current light fixing. I’m thinking someone didn’t sheath the switch live to identify it. Any idea what’s going on with the brown? Thanks for your help so far.
Normally the brown (live) would be looped between light fittings. If it's been terminated, it's probably an obsolete connection.
Is there another junction box in the ceiling above the rose? You probably have a spare core as they had 4 core flex and not 3 core, strange brown wasn't used as the live.
