Cement backer board

    What's the best way of attaching this to concrete blocks. I don't want to screw it or use any mechanical fixing.
    A tile adhesive or building adhesive preferable.

    Foam or polymer mastic.
    Could use board adhesive but but board foam maybe best bet

    Are you then tiling over the cement backer boards ?

    If your walls are perfectly flat and plumb you can use a grab adhesive, if not you should use a cement based tile adhesive.
    You also need to use about nine mechanical fixings as well per full board.

    No they are for the side walls in a log burner fireplace hence no screws as they would be seen

    Use a cement based adhesive to bed the boards to the substrate and to get the opening level and square then mechanically fix them with screws and plugs.
    Just fill the screw heads and decorate as required.
