Basin taps Bristan 1901 style gold plated brass taps. Washer needs changing. Changed washer in hot tap but can't get the head to turn on cold tap. Using a suitable sized robust adjustable spanner and holding the spout with another adjustable spanner or a gripper tool. Watched video on using a tap splitter tool but I only need it once so £30 to change a washer impractical. Anyone know of an alternative method? What causes the siezure? Is limescale remover or WD40 any use? Help appreciated.
Try tipping a kettle of boiling water over it, with a bit of luck things will expand and crack loose.
Sounds good advice. I think I should put a cold wet cloth on the basin beneath the tap to avoid basin cracking from boiling water. Any more tips please?
