I have just changed the light fitting as was old only changed pendant no other wires were touched now light won't turn off at switch . Switch is a Three way, only the switch to the light does not work both other switch's work fine. Can switch's just go ? Or am I missing something. Any help would be gratefull
Because you have connected to the permanent live rather than the switchline, move the brown or red to the single black terminal
Apart from that being a complete dangerous bodge, you appear to have link between Live and Neutral which should have blown the fuse, you need a spark to sort this out
From the photo, you have the added complication that someone has appeared to have added a spur to another fitting. Normally you’d find three cables running to and from the ceiling rose, plus the cables that run to the bulb. You will normally find two blue wires joined directly to the blue wire from the bulb. Then in the middle, three brown wires all joined together, then a third terminal where you will often find a blue wire connected to the brown that goes to the bulb. All the earth wires will be joined in one terminal. Your set up has a forth cable which doesn’t help diagnose the problem you’ve got. The switch should have a brown and a blue wire running to it, one should be connected to “COM” the other to “L1” If you can post some more pictures of the wiring from different angles it may help get to the bottom of this mess. You may find that one of the grey cables contains 3 cores as well as the earth.. Also, post a picture of the wiring that goes to the back of the switch..
Either the switch is duff ,or you have incorrectly wired the light fitting ,and connected a permanent live to the light fittings live terminal. To rule out the switch ,disconnect one of the conductors at the switch. If light remains on its a wiring issue. As above ,pics of wiring at light fitting and switch would be useful.
One very important task that must be done, whether the fault is traced or not, is to remove those bare brass connectors and replace with proper insulated connectors. I would suggest buying an assorted pack of the Wago lever connectors is the first step to fixing this problem..you must not leave it as you found it.
