Hi can anyone advise please if it is possible to change an existing velux window in a tile roof to one for synthetic slates as I want to change the roof back to its original . All the velux info is about the different types but I can't find out if they are interchangeable .
You will need to get a new flashing kit for slates rather than the one you have now, which will be for the type of tiles you have.
Thank you. Is it a difficult job. Experienced roofer but he is getting on and not surenough if he doesn't want to mess around with it too much
There should be a plate on the inner frame of the window. It may have the year of manufacture and the size and type etc. https://www.sterlingbuild.co.uk/info/how-to-identify-your-velux-window-code If the window is old, its best to get a new widow installed complete with the correct flashing kit for the type of roof covering. There is a recessed flashing kit for slate so the window sits lower in the roof line.
A velux window in this size 55 x 118cm start at around £209 for the window alone, flashing kits around £55-70 depending on standard or recessed flashing kit.
