    Hi all,

Looking to widen the gap in my chimney breast so that it is more or less back to the original size. Am I ok to widen it to the red lines? I'm unsure as the vertical brick supports for the stone lintel don't look wide enough and the horizontal bricks look like they could be taking some of the weight.

    Thanks IMG-20200616-WA0002.jpg

I wonder if there's another lintel higher up under the plaster?

You've clearly got to be very careful with what you've exposed so far. But it does look as though the stone lintel is supported by the original brickwork either end, from your photo.

Yeh, looks like there is another lintel about 450mm above the exposed one.

Is there enough support from those bricks to the left and and right of the red lines to support the lintel? Doesn't look like much

Please take off some more plaster to expose the upper lintel and post another picture or two.

    Be careful....
