Big all, how does the quality of the blade compare to the slightly cheaper Marples chisels, like the £25 for 4 type sets?

The reason I ask is I've never had any of my handles split, but the quality of the blade has never been great. I'm not sure if these chisels at £45 are actually better, or if it's just the handles.

I was budgeting about £100 per 4 if anyone has any other suggestions?

The red & yellow marples/irwin chisels are very good, i've had mine since 1981. The 1" & 1 1/4" have worn out & been replaced. Never split a handle yet & they get some abuse with a claw hammer. The blades hold a good edge if you look after them & don't overheat them when grinding.

Red and Yellow Marples over here as well, excellent quality and you get the replacment if you ** the handle.

Also if you've not already, get yourself a decent sharpening station.

Right, I'll give them a try them. £50-£60 seems going rate for the 6 piece set, so I'll budget the rest on a decent sharpening kit. My diamond wet-stone has seen better days.

    Thanks.
