Hi everyone. I'll be (partially) removing a section of loadbearing wall in my flat. The wall is timber stud but loadbearing nevertheless. I want to remove as much of the wall as possible but in the flat below there is a doorway. My question is: what sort of clearance distance should I maintain away from the lintel over that doorway ? i.e. there would be too much pressure being sent down to the lintel in the flat below if my new opening stops above it, so what kind of clearance distance should I maintain so the two loadpaths are not lining up? Would a 75-90 cm distance be sufficient ? The wall in the flat below is masonry, the building is 1930s. I know a lot depends on the weight etc. But roughly speaking etc?
