As the title suggests, I’m looking for something reasonable. Theres two budget ones on Screwfix the Bosch one doesn’t detect timber studs and the magnusson has horrible reviews. Any suggestions sub €80

I have the Bosch one and it's not great, but you can pick out wooden studs by finding the nails that are holding the board in place!

I use a small magnet with good success. It isn't going to identify studs where the board has been glued though. It usually only takes a few minutes to mark out a wall.

They're a gimmick, I would save your money and use your ears, knuckles and intuition.

I went back to find a very interesting video I looked at some time ago on stud finders which I found very useful.
I also have heard a number of people saying they are no good, but this video explains in detail what a lot of people get wrong I'm guessing.
