Dewalt leg stand

do it the other way round as in handles to the back
just make sure the fence and bed line up over the beam off the leg stand
this allows easy removal from the stand as in stand at the front hands to the back grab handles to release and tip saw up towards you

 

Mount the brackets onto a piece of 3/4” ply and use that as a table, put the saw on that.

 

that would work for lighter work with a smaller saw
but iff you are cutting say 6x2" on a 8x1/4"[216mm]plus saw it needs to be fairly accurately over the beam as even a few inches back or forth can upset the Ballance and by being clipped to the stand it locates it positively

also by locking in to the stand the length stop on the arms or beam remain accurate

 

I have the same DeWalt support, the saw needs to be attached to the mounts to work efficiently and accurately.

 

yes i didnt make it clear i use my 712 slider on my leg stand and my comments are fully from use and the odd near miss

 

Not to come across funny or anything but I don’t understand what either of you are saying, I’ve mounted a 216mm Bosch saw on top of an 18mm top, with the brackets bolted to the ply which obviously clip onto the saw stand, used that setup for years without issue and still do occasionally, though now I have a 305mm Makita saw which again sits on the ply top, the only difference being I raise the saw stand supports higher to accommodate the deeper bed on the saw. It’s rock solid.

 

its more the security point when dealing with heavy timber and even carefully placing on a saw the tendency is to firmly push fully on the fence will cause between a small fraction off a movement to to a gradual bit off movement getting greater with use which can stop the length from the stop changing
as i said above a board is great and i use one my self its more the accuracy and noticing the saw creeping off the middle off the board but as you say a board work fine and agree with that its just personal choice

i found with the dewalt 18v 365 because its ultra light it can try and tip on a board where as clipped on it wont

 

You can screw the saw base to the ply if you so wished

 

indeed other options are holes in the board to locate the rubber/plastic /whatever feet if just location is required
