I am attempting to build a pergola but I am concerned about which fixings to use. One side will be attached to the garden wall and the other side will have posts.

I am using a 2" x 6" x 4m piece of timber which will have additional weight from the joists which are also 2" x 6".

What fixings would be recommended going into a part brick (original Victorian red brick) / part breeze block wall.

As no posts on the wall side I am scared of it falling.

A picture would be useful. However, I’d consider hanging the joists from the wall individually with metal joist hangers. It’s a bit more work but will be easier to fix securely than a huge piece of thick timber. Then run the joists to a lateral timber joist supported vertically by your posts.

Google thunderbolts or masonry screws/bolts. They will offer a nice neat solution to fix your beam to the wall. Easy to use as well. Good luck.

As above also known as concrete bolts.
