to set out the lines on a ceiling prior to cutting the holes for downlights? If so which level do you use? I was thinking of getting this: http://www.screwfix.com/prods/74711&cm_mmc=Campaign-_-E08W46-_-C3--LaserLevel?source=aw Or, do you have any other sure-fire methods to lay out the pattern prior to cutting?
Yes, I use string at the moment. It works very well to give excellent end result, but it's a lot of faff and up / down on steps. Just wondering if there's a accurate method that can do away with the faff and quicken the job up. The laser in the link is self levelling.
Dont know of any sure fire method of laying out because you need to know where the joist/spars are before marking out. Once you know where they are and have frigged about getting all the positions to land between the joists, either a laser line that pins to the ceiling or a chalk line to check that your measurements are in line. Depends how many there are really.
I use a chalk line, but if painted then I use: http://images.amazon.com/images/P/B000065CE7.01.MZZZZZZZ.jpg
Dewalt dw087 cross laser level... On ebay for around £140 but if you need a line or a mark anywhere then this is the nuts... Yeah its pricey but trust me i thought that til i got one and i use it every day now!!!
This makes me chortle, I remember using a chalk line on a newly painted ceiling * you can paint attitude), and feeling the wrath of the P&D's for days as they tried to paint out my blue lines. I was an apprentice and knew no better. [Edited by: admin]
I use a laser level, I wouldn't be without it now. But you've got to pay good money for one, the one in your link looks cheap and nasty. It's worth paying a little more for the self leveler.
It is often far easier to mark out positions on the floor, set laser on marked points and beam up to ceiling this one does a good job http://www.screwfix.com/prods/28920/Hand-Tools/Lasers-Levelling/Lasers/1st-2nd-Fix/Stanley-Self-Levelling-Laser-Plumb-Bob
