Door Frame/Casing - Which fixings for Timber into Breeze block?

Hi all, looking for some advice.

Im replacing the timber door frames in the house. The frames will be going into breeze block wall. Whats the ideal fixings for this?

Im assuming you use concrete screws and go straight through timber into breeze block? The usual method of wall plugs is a no no as would be unsuccessful drilling the holes, then trying to match up the frame etc...

Frame wise im fitting a 32mm rebated frame (12mm deep on the rebate) - of anyone has any tips on spacing screws etc then please feedback.

Big thanks all and look forward to the advice.

Red wall plugs and regular part threaded screws are absolutely fine for this, you would just use a longer drill bit to go through the frame and wall in one. If they are frames then use four fixings per side, one top and bottom then the other two spaced roughly equal, if they are linings then use eight fixings per side, at four points. Don't fix through the cill or the head, unless it's a double door frame/lining or unless the head is particularly bowed.

Massive thanks for this...

So with the red wall plugs, would you drill through the timber then into the wall, then add the wall plug to the end of the screw and push the whole thing through the tumber into the wall, once its gripped, then screw tightly? If so, assume you countersink slightly into the timber to filler afterwards?

Cheers again

Yeah, or push the plug into the timber then tap the screw in after it with a hammer until it stops, then screw it up tight. It's advisable to fix the top first, then the bottom once you've plumbed the frame in the sideways orientation, then tweak it plumb on the face side, then add the middle two fixings, ensuring you don't bow the timber in or out, as it means more work when hanging the door. Using a can of expanding foam in the gaps behind the frames or linings will also benefit you later on when it comes to fit the doors, as everything is much more solid and doesn't rattle.

Thanks again jord

Assume you can just use normal wood screws if its in wall plugs?

What size screws and drill bits have you combined in the past?

Cheers again, great advice

Red plugs are a 6mm masonry drill bit if you have a combi drill, sometimes 5.5 but pointless if you just use a 6 then bang two plugs in if the screw doesn't bite first time, either number 10's or 5.0 diameter screws, and the length is whatever you require but you ideally want the screw into the blockwork by about 30mm+.
