I have hung a door and despite the gap being perfect when pre hung and the hinges cut in nice and flush the gap is massive.

I must be doing something wrong? The hinges don’t close up right so I can’t see how I can avoid a gap.

    Sure I am being thick.

Chop another mm out of the hinge recesses on the frame.

Yes that was my first thought but didn’t want to hack anything out before checking I wasn’t missing anything.

I take it the hinges are closing as they should?

Hinges are good, just chop a bit more from the frame, if you chop too much you can always pack the hinge out with cardboard

Or buy different hinges. The gap in those is enormous. Is there a particular need to use loose-pin hinges?

They look like mild steel, take them outside, find a brick of something else to to as an anvil, lie them on the anvil then hit them with a hammer to close the gap.

Does the door shut with a massive gap like that on the hinge side?

A more subtle approach is to squeeze the hinges in a vice, if you have one.
