Door size dilema

I've cut a doorway for my kitchen, the idea is to get the biggest door possible to let max light in. The width of the opening is 35.5 inches approx, and the height from floor to bottom of the lintel is 80 inches. I was hoping to get a bit more in there than a standard 30 inch door. A 33 inch door ideally, 32 would be fine however these all seem to be 80 inches tall, and the whole opening is only 80 inches so there'd be no room for casing. Will I manage to frame the door for 33 inch door with only 35.5 inches to play with? If not, can a 32 inch door height be reduced substantially to fit the height?

35 1/2" is ideal for a 33" door, though if the opening is out of plumb you may need to plane the door a bit.

I don't mind planing the door... Just thought I'd need about a 36.5 inch opening to get in a 33 inch door.. But if I can work with what I've got thats great.. Thanks for the advice!

1 other thing, the thickness of the wall plus plaster is 7 inches. It seems hard to even get 6 inch door frames, in this case would you just stick on a bit of strip wood to make the difference?

If you are using softwood and painting - then make the full frame yourself. Quicker and easier than messing around trying to accuratly cut and align the extra strips. Have a look at a frame - you will see how easy it is.
