You usually can get 2 T&E's in the downlight connector but its tricky if you're not used to doing them. Another method would be to connect the light with flex then connect the other end of the flex to the T&E's with a recommended junction box. http://www.tlc-direct.co.uk/Products/TLCT100C.html Or you could connect one T&E to the light in each case then connect all the ends in a large JB.
surely best practice would be flex into the downlight connections, then put the flex and t&e into something along the lines of a j201, but depends also on whether or not their mains or low voltage downlights, type of transformer used etc, as some transformers do have loop in loop out connections.
