are there any kind of downlights that dont give off heat on the market? Or ones that are less of a fire risk?

LED downlights..not au fait with the forward heat emissions of LED downlights but suspect a negligible heat throw..ie unmeasurable 20mm onwards from surface.

Thus to all intents and purposes they do not give off any appreciable heat..however they are **** in most lighting situations.not all however.

It depends on what you want 40w..best to get a general opinion from the sparks on the forum as it would be wrong of me to just to say they are ***** full stop etc as they may suit you perfectly adequately..

Will say one thing though..they are good/excellent for niche lighting.

  5. Luxeon LED are a top product.
Fitted 30 of these badboys in a shop last week and they look the nuts.
3w and about the quivalent of a 40w normal halogen.
Pricey mind you, at a tenner plus vat.

I shall be fitting em in my landing and hallway during the spring.

How about installing low energy bulbs. 11W = 60W and give off little heat.

I'd say 1 led, in a living room, is much better than a feckin 40w bulb.

  10. The Megaman 11w GU10 give off more light than a standard GU10 50W and only run warm. You can now get 'dimmerable' ones, and pink'ish or blue'ish tints.

Flameproof spots are availible for these lamps. Quite usefull for your part L requirments as normal GU10's wont fit.
