A friend has had some tables made for a group rental accommodation unit. The chances are they will get serious abuse, so I wondered about the most suitable/durable finish. The maker suggested leaving them unfinished and simply scrubbing the wood every couple of months, but this would not protect from red wine spillage etc. I wondered about using Bonekempi acrylic floor varnish!?

I like Rustins plastic coating. 3 or 4 coats. It chemically hardens and protects the surface. Very durable

or junkers rustic oil which is a similar product give it several coats and then you can give it a light sand back and another coat when it starts to look shabby. several thin coats are the way to go as it then gives a semi gloss durable finish
