Hi, I am changing a plastic light switch for a new metal one. The old switch has two red wires, which I assume connects to the lamps above the bed on the same wall as the switch. Could you advise me if I leave the earth wire attached to the metal box, or do I attach it to the new switch’s earthing point. Thanks
Attach the earth to the earth terminal on the switch, then run a link from the switch to the back box.
The advice you've been given by @arrow is incorrect, the earth should attach to the box with a short lead to the switchplate
I can't really be bothered to go looking, but one example is conduit is 1/2" barrel another would be,there are not houses tubed in solid conduit. There are lots but I would need to search.
This is the thread that he's on about, and I stand by every word I wrote, but you will note he likes to change the meaning of what is said - https://community.screwfix.com/thre...nised-conduit-throughout.254923/#post-2035535
Would you terminate the earth wires for a socket in the back box first whether plastic or metal? I very much doubt it, you will take them to the socket first, which is correct. That is why it is correct to go to light switch first.
Good point but I've never done it your way, my reasoning is that you could have 4,5,6 earths I'd rather them be connected to a point that doesn't move.
