My father-in-law recently replaced an outside pillar type light. The old one was plastic & was wired with 2 core. He replaced it with a metal one & buried an earthing spike under the lamp & connected up. Can any sparkies advise if this is OK?
problem is he dont know the impendance and should be assesable aslong as there is a rcd fitted in supply from house....
id say its dangerous, problem with an earth rod is that he wont know the resistance to earth, so an rcd is needed to supplement SS
Downright dangerous, how about fitting an RCD spur (RCD protected switch and fuse) on the supply to the lamp stand.
Thanks super & Drc200, I'll get the old boy onto it ASAP. He asked me to post about this when I was chatting to him about the forums, so now I can earn some brownie points! Thanks again.
