Extending cable

I am looking to add a socket to a ring main, the existing cable in a concrete wall will be too short can I just use any connector and fit inside some trunking, I don't really want to chase wall.

If npt do you have any advice of what connectors to use to add a lenght of cable, preferably that don't require to be in the wall.

I don't really get what you mean. You want to move a socket or add a spur to an existing socket? How do you mean the existing cable is too short? Too short compared to what? I think you need to get some pictures up. Also you can't just chuck in some connectors and put a bit of trunking over them, they need to be put in an appropriate box of some sort.

Thanks for your response, I am getting ahead of myself and just thinking what needs done before actually doing it.

I would like to add fused switch to left of the original socket, then run a cable to a new socket on a different wall and then back to a new socket to the right of the existing socket to hopefully keep the ring intact.

Here is a picture which I hope helps explain what I mean.

The existing cable from pink box that continues the ring at the moment will be too short to reach the yellow box and don't really want to chase a bit out of the concrete wall.

You could extend the cable with wagos, and if you loop the sockets as part of the ring, no need for an FCU.
If you did go with the diagram, the wiring could be much simpler and use less cable. Connect the FCU to the socket on the top right, and then extend that to the one at the bottom.

Also you mention 'keep the ring intact'. The diagram is just a spur from a ring.

Thanks for your response, the FCU would be powering a heater,

For the ring I would go to from FCU to socket on right handside and then back up to the yellow one, is that not correct to keep ring or just aswell to leave as a spur?

Why do you need new cable from fcu to new socket?all you need do is take connection from existing socket to fcu, thats that part done.then also take a new cable from existing socket to new socket next to existing socket then from new socket another cable to other new socket

Ok thanks, I had read that couldn't have too many cables going in to the back of one socket, so existing socket already has a cable coming in and then going out to the next socket on the ring but obviously the Internet is full of different things.

Probably the easiest way would be to loop all the top sockets/FCU as part of the ring, and then just run a single cable to the bottom right socket so it's a spur. Obviously it would be better to tap into the existing cable.

Thanks, so you would put FCU before the first socket on far left of picture?

I am going to be buying a heater from screwfix and they recommend hardwiring it to a fused switch, thats why it wher it is on the picture

You'll need to check that the 2nd cable coming out from the socket is actually forming a ring and not just providing a spur to the existing bottom right socket. Use wagos to extend the cable.

Ok thanks, that does make more sense now, I will make sure bottom socket is on the ring first before carrying out any work.

I take it the wago box has to be secured somewhere?

If I understand you correctly, that's a double spur.
