Always find a phone call to there office first thing in the morning usually gets you the info you need to do the job properly. Foo, dont want to get too touched up on details as its only a loft floor used for storage I just need to know so its safe enough for say the old pc and old pc desk and the old spare bed
If they are not yet in place can you put in a trimmer to take the short joists. Personally I'd always use trimmers before extending joists.
BC - you could use these: http://www.expamet.co.uk/bp/ Select BAT Structural Fixings, then select Splice Plates They are used to extend joists when the ends have been cut off due to rot. I used them to splice a bloody great glulam ridge beam (over a support) with S Eng and BC approval. Use 38mm square twist nails in every hole. All the best
Thanks CM I had seem something similar while Googling last night. Something like that will be ideal as I only have to add an extra 500mm to the joist so it will cut down on waste. Only problem is they are so expensive in comparison to the price of a joist - hey ho - if it aint big enough then it needs doing!!
