Exterior wooden door frames

I'm planning on replacing my sliding patio doors next year so I'm after a short term fix for the old wooden frame that has rotten in parts and have come off.

Could I use expanding foam or some sort of putty to fill it till I'm able to replace the frames and doors to stop bugs or the cold coming in?

Dealing with rotten wooden door frames can be a hassle, but it's great that you're already planning to replace them next year. In the meantime, using expanding foam or putty as a temporary fix is a smart idea to keep bugs and cold drafts at bay.

Just a tip: be sure to properly prepare the surface and apply the foam or putty carefully to ensure a secure seal. It's also a good idea to periodically check and reapply as needed until you can replace the frames and doors.
