    Hi All,

I got a quote for having our path tiled with victorian style (black and white) tiles from a local landscape company. They said external tiles for a path must be 20mm minimum as anything less will crack. Is this true?

I have looked at a fair few options and most are 8-10mm. If 20mm victorian tiles are out there, I can't find them....

Only footfall is planned for this path although I suppose a scaffold may go on it one day.

    Thanks.

I suppose there are two concerns:
    1. Most tiles are made in hot countries where wet and freezing weather is not a consideration, so they are susceptible to moisture and cracking.
    2. A thin tile might be frost proof, but the thinner it is the more likely frost could get underneath and break the bond with the damp bedding.

So a 6mm tile will crack eventually with British weather and regular footfall regardless of how well it is laid and sealed?
