Painted my front door with Dulux oil based undercoat, wife returns from shopping with a big smile holding 750ml tin of Farrow&Ball exterior eggshall, which cost £19

After i politely told her she's **ing mad, well woman in shop said, "you must use water based undercoat"

Has the world gone bonkers or does she have a point?

What do the instructions state on the container?

The eggshell is water based, they say use F/B primer undercoat, which costs £15 per 750ml.

Would it really do any harm going over the oil based undercoat?

Lightly rub over the undercoat with an abrasive paper say about 180 grit and apply 2 coats of the eggshell letting dry between coats.

Used some of this recently and with 2 undercoats and 2 top coats still looked rubbish. In fact refused to use it on the next job. Overpriced junk.

Sorry to say but don't use Farrow & Ball paints outside! Stick with Dulux. Costs less and will last longer. You're paying for a name not quality!
