'Fast' but not 'powerful' PC.

could always go for a Ryzen 2400G for more poke if needed.
 
Has this not gone a bit far for email, surfing and online bridge!
Unless I've got it wrong online bridge is not exactly a high processor/graphics intensive.
None of this needs anything like the spec suggested. If you really think a Pi won't be capable for these very limited needs, you would be far better using Chrome OS on a chromebox if you want instant on and have the benefits of auto updating etc.

Ah, I see what you mean - only a DVI is listed in the spec.

I'm pretty sure it also has DisplayPort too, as I've seen it on that exact same machine on other sites. But I will check should I decide on it.

Is superglue needed for assembly?

Thanks KitFit, I do see that that's a much better option. I would usually be happy to put this together - I have done most parts in a PC at one time or another - but this is different... If anything were to happen, then Nan would immediately have her suspicions; "Are you sure that part was meant to go there?"

Overclockers don't have an assembly option?

There's also the issue that it won't have 'Dell' or 'HP' or something she recognises on the case :rolleyes:

Yup, waaaay over the top.

This is going to sound nuts, but if I were to buy something that would just 'do the job', it would only cost a £ouple of hundred. And she wouldn't be happy...:oops:

So might as well future-proof it as much as possible since the expected budget will be around £500-odd.

Mmmm, so it's for your Nan and not your Mother in law DA ?
Just explain to Nan/mother in law that Dell or HP are overpriced tat using old tech that will run as slow as a very slow thing running as slow as possible :D

And nope..............no superglue would be harmed during assembly. The ownership of a pozidrive screwdriver would be handy though.

Mum-in-law IS 'Nan'...

I need a simple solution to this. One that if it goes pear-shaped, it goes straight back - not me bringing oot ma screwdriver again...

I DO understand what you are saying, how to get the best whatsit for your spondoolacs, but this has to be a simple solution for all concerned.

At the moment it's the Fujitsu Esprimo Q556 or Ramsey's Dell Vostro 3470.

Anything better 'off the shelf'?

Then go for the Fujitsu, it does have display port out, so you only need to get a display port to HDMI lead for it.

I wouldn't know, i've never bought a pre-built pc in my life, never come across one that would be as good as or as cheap as one i'd built myself.

I would def go your way if this was for myself (actually, I usually just buy 2nd-hand...), but this one needs to be painless. :)

Not unless you also change ya keyboard, mouse and ya little green screen as well RS. Of course, moving 28 years of saved Pron might be slightly more tricky :D
