Hi I jut wondered if anybody could give me a bit of specialist advice. I'm wanting to re apply a topcoat to our fibre glass roof. It has recently had a couple of patch repairs and the topcoat colour that the roofer used for the repairs is a slightly darker shade of grey. It's purely for cosmetic reasons but I wanted to recoat the whole roof so it was the same colour. I know that existing coat will require sanding but I seem to be getting conflicting information when I look online. Some sites suggest lightly sanding the existing topcoat to provide a key but others suggest removing the old topcoat completely (back to the clear laminate) before reapplying the new coat. I will be cleaning the whole area with acetone before getting down to it! Any advice from experienced traders would be much appreciated. Thanks!
Yes you are correct, sand well to get a good key. Thoroughly clean with acetone and then recoat. No need to remove all of the old topcoat providing it's sound and stuck well
